Christian Haass received the Grand Prix Européen 2024

Christian Haass has received the European Research Award, also known as the “Grand Prix Européen 2024.” This prestigious award comes with a grant of 100,000 euros and was presented by the Fondation Recherche Alzheimer in recognition of his research into the fundamental mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease. The France-based foundation is dedicated to promoting research on Alzheimer’s and engages in various outreach activities. The award ceremony took place in Paris on March 17, 2025.

For over 30 years, Christian has been researching the molecular and cellular processes that underlie Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia. His work on beta-amyloid proteins, which accumulate in the brain during Alzheimer’s disease, has paved the way for new therapeutic interventions that are now being implemented. Additionally, he has made significant scientific contributions regarding the brain's immune cells, known as microglia, which also play a crucial role in Alzheimer’s disease.
