For Schools & Students
Our researchers enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for research and their research field with students and are happy to visit your classroom. From high school students to kindergarten, our researchers have presented to students of all ages. Examples include: What it means to work in a lab (high school, Astrid Feiten), Alzheimer research (for the Science Day at the Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium, Alice Sülzen), and neuroscience (elementary school, Qihui Zhou), and introducing career tracks in (neuro)biology (elementary school and preschool, Lena Burbulla).
If you would like to learn more with your class/students about what it means to work in (neuro)science and/or you would like to learn more about one of our research topics, please feel free to contact us by sending Astrid van Kimmenade an email.
We participate in the "Jugend forscht" school science Olympics. The winners can apply for funded research scholarships in one of the SyNergy laboratories and gain laboratory experience. Read their experiences below:
Eva (20): "I had no idea how much data could be produced. I quickly learned that maintaining focus is essential, but it can be challenging not to get distracted by other interesting results that aren‘t directly related to your research question."
Janez (18): "I was pleasantly surprised by the emphasis on practical tasks during my internship - I found it extremely exciting and beneficial to be able to carry out procedures myself."
Jakob (18): "As a high school student, you usually do not have the opportunity to visit a lab, especially not such a renowned lab that operates on the forefront of science – it felt as a real privilege."
Anna (19): "My daily schedule was very diverse: from working on the research project to attending scientific presentations, reading papers, and analyzing experiments – I got to observe all the different facets of lab work and combine theory with practice."
Lale (20): "It was an important confirmation that I definitely want to do my MD thesis in a wet lab, possibly in the neuroscientific field. And that in the meantime, I want to continue doing lab internships."
Vera (20): "The internship showed me what life could look like after my studies. It motivated me to continue with my studies."
Vivien (16): "You really learn what everyday laboratory life is about. My advice for future interns: Be open, take it all in, and have fun!!"
NeuroCamp is an international, annual summer camp in Munich for high school students. It is organized by students and young researchers from different universities and research institutes in Munich. The aim is to get students enthusiastic about the fascinating field of Neuroscience and promote the interest in science in general. SyNergy sponsors and contributes to NeuroCamp.
