SyNergy Science@School – Inspiring the Next Generation

As part of the SyNergy Science@School outreach program, around 80 talented high school students from across Upper Bavaria joined an exciting interactive event organized by Dr. Anne Wöllmer and Dr. Christine Wild-Bode within the SyNergy Translational Teaching Track. The participating students were enrolled in the gifted education program funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and coordinated by Mr. Rübig and Mrs Peters.

The program featured inspiring lectures on the biology of human intelligence (HI) — as a fascinating counterpart to artificial intelligence (AI) — and on Alzheimer’s disease, covering its molecular causes, diagnosis, and emerging therapies.

After the lectures, students tested their knowledge in an interactive quiz, with SyNergy prizes awarded to the winners, followed by a lively break with popcorn, drinks, and engaging discussions with medical students about science, research, and career paths.

To highlight the human side of neurodegeneration, the group then watched the award-winning film Still Alice, portraying the life of a woman with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease followed by a thoughtful discussion.

The students’ curiosity, enthusiasm, and insightful questions made the event a great success, highlighting the importance of scientific outreach in inspiring the next generation of scientists and physicians.
