The list of Highly Cited Researchers 2025 comprises more than 6,800 academics and scientists. It is issued by the American company Clarivate Analytics. Analysis is based on the so-called Web of Science, which tabulates all citations in research publications. The more frequently a researcher’s publications are cited, the higher the significance and quality of the research are ranked. All research articles published over the past eleven years are included in the analysis. For the current list, publications from the period 2013 to 2024 were considered. Only the top 1% most-cited publications in the 20 fields and interdisciplinary category (highly cited papers) are included in the evaluation.

The following SyNergy members are included: Martin Dichgans (LMU, category: cross-field), Mikael Simons (TUM, category: cross-field), and Fabian Theis (TUM, categories: biology & biochemistry and molecular biology & genetics).
