Arthur Liesz received the ESO Scientific Excellence Award

Arthur Liesz was awarded the prestigious ESO Scientific Excellence Award for his contributions to understanding stroke and neurovascular diseases. The award was presented during the Presidential Session at the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC 2025) in Helsinki.

Arthur Liesz’s research focuses on the interplay between the brain and the immune system after stroke. Acute brain lesions disturb the well-balanced interconnection between both systems. Hence, his lab’s research focuses on both directions of brain-immune interaction: The impact of immune mechanisms on neuronal damage and recovery and the systemic immunomodulation after stroke.

The ESO Scientific Excellence award is given to an emerging, mid-career researcher, for whom an award for repeated research excellence could assist advancement to a final career position. Find out more here.
