    Tools for Transnational Neuropsychiatric Research

Kick-Off-Event of the CAS Research Group “Tools for Transnational Neuropsychiatric Research” led by Prof. Dr. Nikolaos Koutsouleris, Prof. Dr. Johannes Levin and Prof. Dr. Adrian Danek (LMU).

Clinical research on neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders is extremely complex because patient populations are diverse and heterogeneous. Genetically determined cases of neuropsychiatric disorders provide a unique opportunity for more detailed studies of natural history and response to treatment because they represent well-defined and homogeneous groups. These cases also provide an opportunity to better understand the biology of heterogeneous disorders such as schizophrenia and dementia praecox, in which subtle forms of neurodegeneration may occur in disease subgroups that can be identified using modern AI-based pattern recognition methods. By successfully developing research tools and solutions in these areas, the Research Group aims to strengthen interdisciplinary neuropsychiatric research and complement ongoing approaches in biochemistry and brain imaging.
